Economic Disadvantage Narrative

Requirement: This Narrative is required by all applicants applying for SBA 8(a) certification. This is regardless of whether the person is a member of a designated SBA 8(a) Economic Disadvantage Group.

Purpose: To demonstrate how the applicant firms socially disadvantage has impaired the businesses ability to compete in the free enterprise system. This is primarily due to diminished capital and credit opportunities compared with other firms in the same or similar industries.

Service Includes:

Telephone Conference: 8(a) Certification Specialist will interview the 8(a) applicant for approximately 2 hours to cover the applicant’s personal life story. This one-on-one process gives us increased insight and allows the specialist to create a game plan for a successful narrative. The following areas will be explored in this interview

How applicant’s 1) race, 2) ethnicity, 3) culture, 4) gender,5) handicap, or 6) residence have played into access to capital.

Prejudice and bias occurring in the process of obtaining 1) bonding for the business 2) Credit 3) Licenses 4) Leases and 5) Market Restrictions.

2. Document Checklist: Client will provide documents listed on our document checklist.

3. Expedite Missing Information: Contact client via email and telephone to obtain missing information.

4. Create Narrative: Build a totally comprehensive Economic Narrative in conformance with SBA 8(a) Application “best practices”.
